The most fundamental component of the LBS industry
is the ‘positioning’ technology; the GeoMode Positioning Engine (GPE) is a
server-based software product, which can locate the position of mobile phones
to within an average of 50 meters. The GPE is an all-software solution has
significant advantages over other competing technology that depend on complex
hardware and costly infrastructure upgrades.
The
implementation of GeoMode does not require any additional infrastructure or
independent overlay network to perform its location process. By simply analyzing the current network signal data of a standard unmodified cell phone,
the actual location phones are calculated in seconds and made available for use
by online Location Based Service applications.
GeoMode has
been tested on a variety of metropolitan and rural settings where it
demonstrated location accuracy of within 60 meters for 90% of the time.
Additionally, it meets requirements of the US Federal Communications Commission
Enhanced Emergency Services Mandate, which requires that 911 calls be located
to within 100 meters at least 67% of the time.
The GeoMode
solution is a server-based software product and requires no changes to wireless
infrastructure. GeoMode works with standard handsets and can support GSM, GPRS,
CDMA and UMTS and most all-digital networks.
GeoMode can also locate Assisted GPS (A-GPS) handsets with the same
accuracy as all legacy handsets, and is actually complimentary to A-GPS technology
which, on its own, presents some technical and business obstacles such as:
